Uncovering How the Human Brain Responds to Direct Electrical Stimulation

WebinarFree

June 30, 2022 | 12 - 1 PM (ET)

Overview

Presented by Angelique C. Paulk, Instructor, Department of Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School

Angelique will discuss how they use direct electrical stimulation (DES) to identify how the human brain, particularly the frontal and temporal cortex, responds to varying parameters of stimulation, taking into account amplitude, frequency, and stimulation location, in the hope to uncover the key input-output relationships between stimulation parameters and neural responses intracranially. They found brain region-specific response profiles to different combinations of stimulation parameters which were consistent across individuals as well as within individuals. These profiles could inform both a mechanistic understanding of DES as well as identified rules in how the brain responds to stimulation for possible therapeutic uses.
