European tVNS Research Network Webinar Series: Optimization of tVNS using fMRI

Online

May 7, 2026 | 16:00 (CEST)

Overview

While tVNS shows promise as a neuromodulation approach, important questions remain regarding its mechanisms and optimization. This webinar will explore how functional MRI can advance our understanding of taVNS, including how current flow, neurodynamics, and brain activation patterns can inform stimulation parameters and target engagement.

This three-part webinar series, organized within the FWO-funded European tVNS Research Network, aims to highlight cutting-edge topics in transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) and foster discussion within our research community. All webinars are free of charge, but registration is required (a Zoom link will be shared upon registration).

Chairs:

  • Dr. Stefanie De Smet
  • Paula Horczak (PhD researcher)

Speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Marom Bikson, The City College of New York (USA)
  • Dr. Vanessa Teckentrup, Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience (Ireland)
  • Dr. Mareike Ludwig, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (Germany)

Timing:

All sessions take place at 16:00 CEST and last approximately 1 hour, including live Q&A (10 min talk + 5 min Q&A per speaker).
