Course Overview
The Brain Stimulation CME Course is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary educational program designed to equip clinicians with the knowledge and practical frameworks needed to evaluate, select, and implement neuromodulation therapies across neurologic and psychiatric conditions. Over two days, the course provides an integrated overview of invasive and noninvasive brain stimulation modalities, including deep brain stimulation (DBS), vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), responsive and adaptive neurostimulation (RNS, adaptive DBS), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU), and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Day 1 focuses on foundational principles and established clinical applications. Learners will explore the surgical, circuit-level, and systems mechanisms underlying invasive neuromodulation, followed by in-depth discussions of DBS for movement disorders, epilepsy, and psychiatric disease. The afternoon transitions to noninvasive neuromodulation, emphasizing TMS technology, mechanisms, and evidence-based indications in depression, anxiety, OCD, and smoking cessation. Day 2 emphasizes emerging approaches, personalization, and clinical implementation. Sessions address treatment selection and sequencing, accelerated and novel TMS protocols, targeting strategies based on anatomy and functional connectivity, and precision dosing. Additional modules cover tDCS, LIFU, and expanded perspectives on ECT, including mechanistic insights and integration with other neuromodulation therapies. The course concludes with multidisciplinary panels and case-based discussions that highlight real-world clinical decision-making and collaborative care models.
