The Brain Stimulation Society, co-founded by the late Nolan Williams, is building accredited training standards to bring advanced brain stimulation into real-world clinical practice across psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, and other specialties. The inaugural Nolan R. Williams Award will honor Dr. Williams’s legacy as a mid-career clinician scientist who brought together clinical psychiatry and neurology through cutting-edge research, educational and nonprofit leadership, and innovation in industry.

The inaugural awardee is Dr. Joshua Brown, a practicing psychiatrist and neurologist who leads multiple NIH- and DARPA-funded research projects on neuroplastogens and TMS. As CMO of NRX Pharmaceuticals, he is working to bring d-cycloserine to market as an FDA-approved adjunct to TMS. He is also a past president of the Clinical TMS Society and the founding editor-in-chief of the TMS Journal.
